About Blue Moon Estate Sales
Deb and Ken Blue founded Blue Moon Estate Sales in 2009. With years of experience in antiques, business and management, this step into full-time entrepreneurship was an excellent opportunity in a very uncertain financial time. The Blues hit the ground running, and Blue Moon rapidly became the most active estate sale company in Raleigh, NC. They soon made plans to optimize their tried-and-true processes and built their business in the form of a reproducible and reliable franchise. This business model would enable others to enter the estate sale industry and enjoy the many benefits of self-employment.
Meet Your Support Team
Today, Blue Moon Estate Sales headquarters includes a team of highly experienced professionals working to support franchisees across the country.
Deb has worked as a registered nurse, attended and graduated from medical school and later specialized in Family Medicine and Hospice and Palliative Medicine. In addition to providing patient care, she managed full teams of medical professionals. She found her career in medicine very rewarding, but her entrepreneurial spirit kept calling her to franchise the family business. According to Deb, helping to launch similarly minded people into their own roles as empowered business owners has proven to be incredibly fulfilling!
David joined the family business after completing his business degree at the University of Wisconsin and spent years mastering the nuances of running the flagship operation. He then joined Deb in co-founding the franchise entity. David is the Swiss Army knife of the operation and uses his boots-on-the-ground experience and technological knowhow to help advance the organization.
Zena worked for the flagship operation for seven years before joining the franchise team. She has a degree in Communications and spent years in management before joining Blue Moon. Her skills run the gamut from operations and franchisee support to communications and supply management. She’s also a bonafide retail wizard, especially when it comes to staging and pricing.
Sarah came to Blue Moon with a background in marketing technology, television production and people management. After graduating from CU Boulder with a degree in Environmental Design, Sarah went on to live all over the world. She even lived in Japan! Having settled in the South with her family, Sarah now acts as Blue Moon’s Digital Platform Manager, helping our franchisees use technology to grow their businesses.
Kara originally studied Art History, Studio Art and History of Rock n’ Roll at Indiana University Bloomington. From there, she took the logical next step and opened a vintage clothing boutique, after which she "grapevined" her way into the auction industry. After moving to the South in search of warmer weather, she joined the Blue Moon team as Content Manager. She’s still getting the hang of working “y’all” into her vocabulary.
Nick Patterson, a proud Hoosier, serves Blue Moon Estate Sales as a Franchise Business Consultant. He works directly with new and existing franchisees to guide them in making sound business decisions. As an active consultant, he provides proactive support in ensuring that best practices are in use and that Blue Moon’s core values are considered in every business decision. Outside of work, Nick can be found hiking, climbing or exploring the outdoors with his wife and young son.
Janet Diaz is Blue Moon’s Franchise Development Director. She has extensive experience in franchise sales and joined the team in late 2019. She nurtures relationships with potential franchisees and helps to determine if candidates are a good fit for the Blue Moon Estate Sales family. Outside of work, Janet enjoys traveling with her family. You can also find her out in the garden, putting some miles on her bike and rooting her son on playing basketball.
